heres an example rss feed: example rss feed
so if we take that and edit it

rattlebones Home Page

rattlebones blog

lets try rss

playing with rss

then we save it at blog.post.rss.rss.xml
that doesnt work
so we find and consult the documentation [1]. immediately see it should work
so name it .txt
mv blog.post.rss.rss.xml blog.post.rss.rss.txt
still doesnt work.
its probably the pandoc render script
yeah that was it. needed to make it know what to do with .txt files. maybe that should be more generic.
and it works!
and thats gonna be newsboat, an actively maintained fork of Newsbeuter which i never used because i cant remember how to spell it. now imagine if Newsbeuter were source-available.
adding feeds. [2] says to add it to ~/.newsboat/urls.
wow thats easy. imagine if it wasnt and it was source-available. ill
stop :)
so we add
mkdir ~/.newsboat -pv
mkdir: created directory '/home/vague/.newsboat'
echo 'https://rattlebones.neocities.org/blog.post.rss.rss.txt' >> ~/.newsboat/urls
and try it
Newsboat 2.36.0 - Articles in feed 'rattlebones Home Page' (0 unread, 1 total) - https://rattlebones.ne
1 Oct 01 lets try rss
wow that worked pretty well!
and save what we learned…
and theres an rss feed.
oh oops had a typo in the feed. next thing is to write a script to generate the rss feed now that weve converted the main page into a bearblog like list of posts. but i can save that for later
